A little piece of history:
The inaugural meeting of the SSC-NL was held on November 11, 1988.
Because a large number of members of Mushing Holland believed that they could no longer practice the sled dog sport in complete freedom within MH after joining the FISTC and canceling their ESDRA membership, it was decided to establish our club.
The FISTC wanted the exclude non "purebred" dogs (breeds not recognized by the FCI, Federation Cynologique Internationale) such as the Alaskan Husky from sled dog sport in Europe.
The board of November '88 consisted of:
Chair: Jan van Berkel
secretary: Rob van de Kogel
Treasurer: John Elzenga
Member: Straw van Dijk
Member: Dirk van de Noort
In December of that year, less than a month after it was founded, the first copy of the SSC-NL HIKE, the official club magazine, appeared.
The editing was in the hands of Hans van de Hoeve and Elly Elzenga
