The big changes 2021
The Prohibited List is updated annually by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and identifies the substances and methods that are banned primarily for their potential to enhance performance in sport or their masking potential.
A new Prohibited List will come into effect on January 1, 2021. The new list contains several news that are important for athletes, their doctors, other support persons and sports officials to be aware of:
Partially allowed substances
Inhalation VILANTEROL is allowed when up to 25 micrograms are inhaled over a 24 hour period (Class S3: Beta-2 agonists).
It is clarified that the exception for dermatological, nasal, or ophthalmic use of imidazole derivatives includes BRIMONIDINE, CLONAZOLIN, FENOXAZOLIN, INDANAZOLINE, NAPHAZOLINE, OXYMETAZOLINE, and XYLOMETAZOLINE (Class S6: Stimulants).
Additional changes
Following the changes to the World Anti-Doping Code of 2021, four substances on the list have been recognized as substances of abuse: COCAINENE, DIAMORPHINE (heroin), METHYLENEDIOXYMETHAMPHETAMINE (MDMA) and TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL (THC).
The 2021 Prohibited List has been redesigned to improve navigation and usability.
